The chances of a patient developing a delirium while on the Intensive Care can be predicted fairly well. Dutch promovendus Mark van den Boogaard developed a model that better predicts the chances on a delirium than the treating doctors.

Goal of this model and the accompanying application is to treat a patient with high risk on a delirium, on a preventive basis with medication, and thus leading to less deliria patients, less re-admissions in the hospital and a larger chance of survival, especially in the high-risk group.

This model helps the treating doctors in recognizing the risks on a delirium, and preventing the delirium from actually happening. The model is based on three tests, which minimizes the risk of errors and maximizes the results. On April 2nd, Mark van den Boogaard will promote on this subject, with his model.
